What is love?
What is the actual definition of "love"?
According to the dictionary "love" is an intense feeling of deep affection.
However, I know that "feelings" can lie.
So I think we need to turn to the only one who does not lie, the only perfect one. God.
And since we are talking about "love" I think the best definition of love is GOD.
Because God is love. I mean here is a man who sent his only son to die for our sins so that we could have life. Is that not love?
You are here today because of his profound love.
The definition in the dictionary says that love is basically just a feeling. That's it. I think our world has completely resorted to the dictionary meaning of love and unfortunatly we have quit learning about what love really is. I mean look at the divorce rates these days, I guess the world has bought the whole love is a feeling crap, and when that feeling is gone so is your marriage. Goodbye spouse, hello divorce.
The definition in the bible about love is,
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is more than just a feeling. Love takes a hell of a lot more work than what it does to get that feel good moment in a relationship. Heck you can give a compliment and make your significant other "feel" happy.
But love is more than just that, love takes a lot of work. You have to make the decision every single day when you wake up to love. It is an ongoing decision that never ends, like a circle- there is no end.
You can't just quit because the feeling isn't there anymore. You have to do something to create that feeling every single day.
The bible gives us the best definition of love, if you read the above verse love is more than a feeling that you get.
This verse is what every married couple should live by. It is what God has placed for us so that when the world trys to tell us what love is, we can turn to God- the truth.
